Becky Hyde, both a volunteer and senior guest, is our October spotlight. Born in Wolf Lake and raised in Albion, Becky and her husband moved to their South Whitley home in 1985. She and Chuck were married for 29 years, before he passed away in 2011. They have four children and fourteen grandchildren.
Becky has been retired since 2006. Her employment included: 25 years at United Telephone, 4 years at Manpower 911 Addressing and 11 years at Shindigz. Now that she is retired, she enjoys a variety of hobbies such as crocheting, cross-stitching, reading, genealogy, and knitting. Becky commented, "I like to do anything but housework."
When asked to tell us her favorite place to travel,
she said, "My most memorable trip was when Chuck and I spent 3 1/2 months in Lordsburg, New Mexico." Her most recent accomplishment is being able to mow her own lawn again. After a recent hip replacement surgery, Becky counts herself as very blessed to be able to work in her yard, which she loves to do.
Becky has been a guest since the day we launched L&C in June 2014. Spending time with her friends is the best part of L&C, plus it gets her out of cooking 2 days a week. Her smile and contagious laugh are things we love most about this special lady. Not only does Becky rarely miss a gathering, she has some important tasks while at the meals. She keeps track of the number of meals served, guests who attend, those who receive meal deliveries etc. It has been a huge help to have her assist in this way. Becky also takes care of sending cards to friends/neighbors, does banking when needed and calls bingo. Becky, what would we do without you? We are so happy you are a part of our One Community family!!
