Betty (Wolfe) Mink was born May 3, 1935 in Columbia City. After graduating from CC High School, she married Lawrence “Dan” Mink in 1957. Together they had 4 children: Becky, Chris, Sam and Vicki. Betty worked at the former Farmers Loan and Trust for 40 years as a teller until she retired 15 years ago.
She has always loved to travel and was responsible for planning many bus trips with Marilyn Bolinger. Their group was called the “On the Go Gang” that organized one-day bus trips to lots of fun places. These trips have been the source of great memories for many of her friends and other people in SW. When asked about her favorite place she has ever traveled to her comment was the Carnival Gospel Cruise to Mexico in June 2003.
Betty has been a widow since 1994. There are many things she does to help fill her time. She was the first female to become a member of the SW Lions Club, joining 25 years ago, where she has served as secretary for 20 years. Betty has been a member of the SW United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Baking and cooking are on the list of enjoyable pastimes, along with puzzles, word search, reading and feeding the birds. Having 7 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren, along with her cat, Callie, also keep her busy.
When asked to share something most people do not know about her, Betty replied, “When I was 13 years old, I had my first job of delivering the Post & Mail. I was the first girl ever hired to deliver papers.”
One Community is grateful to Betty for being a valued guest at the senior meals from the beginning. Betty rarely misses L&C on Mondays and Wednesdays. Betty says, “The good food, fellowship of new and old friends, entertainment and bingo games are what keep me coming back.” Thank you, Betty Mink, for being an important part of our lunches. We are happy you are a member of the One Community family!!!
